Brand new clothes for people affected by the Queensland floods

HELP and assistance is on the way for thousands of Queenslanders who are now starting the recovery process after a “rain bomb” hit south-east Queensland over the weekend.

With thousands losing their possessions and being forced to evacuate from their homes during the rising flood waters, a not-for-profit organisation is providing emergency assistance in the form of brand new clothing.

Thread Together is a global first national program that provides new clothing to vulnerable people in the community, redistributing excess clothing stock directly from manufacturers, at no cost to the recipient.

The Thread Together van run by Anglicare Southern Queensland and St Andrew’s Anglican Parish.

The mobile wardrobe in a van launched in Brisbane a year ago and has assisted more than 2000 people from Brisbane, Redlands, Logan, Ipswich and on the Gold Coast. The van is sponsored by Bendon Lingerie and is supported and run by Anglicare Southern Queensland and St Andrew’s Anglican Parish, Indooroopilly.

Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Thread Together Project Manager Leanne Wood said she was thinking of everyone affected by the recent floods in both Queensland and New South Wales.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the floods,” Leanne said.

“Thread Together, Anglicare Southern Queensland and the Anglican Parish at Indooroopilly are working together to assist people who are doing it tough and particularly those who have been affected by the flooding in Brisbane, Gympie, Sunshine Coast and on the Gold Coast.

For urgent assistance, people are encouraged to contact Thread Together directly at [email protected] to let them know what you need.

Volunteers can prioritize your orders directly out of the warehouse and new clothes can be delivered for free directly to your door or a safe pickup point.

“Thread Together in Queensland has just ticked over 12 months and has supported more than 2000 people in that time visiting 105 sites,” Leanne said.

“The demand just keeps growing – with the pandemic, with people unemployed and the housing crisis and now the Queensland floods it’s so important that we can take at least one pressure off people and keep them warm and comfortable.

“I would like to thank Thread Together, our sponsors Bendon Lingerie and our wonderful volunteers. We couldn’t do it without them.”
