Symes Thorpe Open Day on September 7 – come along and join us
Are you considering aged care for a loved one? Or are you interested in a career in aged care?
Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Symes Thorpe Residential Aged Care home in Toowoomba is hosting an Open Day on Wednesday 7 September for the community looking into aged care for themself or for a parent or family member.
The event is an opportunity to see what the home has to offer future residents, meet with staff, and current residents, and tour the home. A range of family-friendly activities will be on throughout the day including a paint and sip, putt-putt, bingo and more.

The Open Day allows families to see for themselves what living at Symes Thorpe is like and why our residents love to call Symes Thorpe home.
The Open Day is also a chance for anybody considering a career change or start in aged care to learn more about the variety of roles and training opportunities through Anglicare Southern Queensland. If you are looking for a rewarding career and are a caring, nurturing person, a career in aged care may be a fit for you.
The Symes Thorpe Open Day will take place on Wednesday 7 September from 10am until 3.30pm at 69 Stenner Street, Middle Ridge, Toowoomba.
A live band will provide entertainment for the whole family with a sausage sizzle, coffee, and tea available.
Symes Thorpe Manager Antonia Hynes said “it will be a wonderful day with lots of activities on offer for those who attend.”
“I’m really looking forward to welcoming the community to our Open Day to visit the home and we have job opportunities for those interested in a career in aged care,” Antonia said.
“There are so many exciting jobs and varied jobs in aged care, from nurses and personal care workers, to allied health professionals, diversional experts, chefs, cleaners, and gardeners.”
A registered nurse, Mrs Hynes has been working in Aged Care for over a decade and said it was “the best decision she has ever made.”
“I absolutely love my job. We are entrusted with the responsibility of caring for somebody’s loved ones and there’s no greater satisfaction when you offer quality care to them,” she said.
“We have a wonderful and caring team who go beyond their call of duty to deliver exceptional level of care to our residents.
“We offer lots of flexibility and career opportunities, and it is a rewarding career supporting the community.
If you are interested in a career in aged care, we will be holding on-site interviews for candidates across both our Residential Aged Care and Home and Community aged care services.
