The Home Stretch

Helping to make the difference between thriving, or just surviving, as young people transition out of care.

Anglicare Southern Queensland played an active role in The Home Stretch campaign, an alliance of 14 Queensland care providers that advocated for more than three years to achieve the option of extended care to 21 for young Queenslanders leaving the out-of-home care system.

Hear from the young people who know about the system

As part of the campaign, a group of young people who know first hand the challenges of transitioning to adulthood from the care system shared their experiences with us at a launch at New Farm Cinemas in Brisbane.

Theirs are the stories that drove the Home Stretch campaign, and show why the commitment to extended care in Queensland was, and continues to be, so important.

Why is extended care so important?

The following resources developed by The Home Stretch campaign for Queensland provide extensive evidence for the value of extended care.

The Home Stretch Queensland Steering Group included Anglicare SQ, Uniting Care Community, Mercy Community Services, Anglicare CQ, Anglicare NQ, Key Assets, Community Living Association, Churches of Christ Care, Peak Care Qld, QATSCIPP, IFYS Ltd, and Queensland Foster and Kinship Care.
