Almost a decade apart, Cherice and Katie* fell into homelessness after experiencing challenging family dynamics. When they reached out to Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Youth Homelessness Service, they were scared and unsure of what was to come.
Though, with the support and guidance that they were able to receive from our team, they found a sense of safety, stability and hope for a better future.
Recent data shows that 43,226 children and young people (under 25 years) presented to a specialist homelessness service in 2023-2024 and half of those who tried to get a bed in a crisis refuge were turned away.
“I became homeless after a family breakdown… Although I was at school and working two jobs, I still didn’t have enough money to cover the rent, so I ended up homelessness and needing support.”
– Cherice, former Anglicare client.
With homelessness rates rising amongst this cohort, there’s not enough accommodation and wrap around support available to connect them to services to achieve long-term housing outcomes and opportunities for a brighter future.
Your generosity and support can give young people a safe place to stay and help them to rebuild their lives – off the street.
Youth Homelessness Project
Anglicare Southern Queensland’s $14 million Youth Homelessness Project will support young people (aged 16-25 years) who are either experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness.
In addition to crisis accommodation, residents can access wrap-around support focused on their social and emotional wellbeing, and their journey toward independence. This may include a range of mental health support services, connection to education, training and employment opportunities, relationship building, financial literacy and other forms of counselling, and cultural and spiritual connections.
For as long as a young person is accommodated with us, this housing is designed to provide them with their own, individual space and a safe place that they can call home. This service will provide young people with the stability and space they need to pursue the future they choose for themselves.

“We believe that with the right support network, every young person can get on the right path to reach their full potential. Early intervention, and support services like Anglicare Southern Queensland are critical.”
