Supporting youth potential

Nearly a quarter of Australians experiencing homelessness are aged between 12 and 24.

In Logan alone, 30.8% of people experiencing homelessness are young people.

And the situation is worsening.

  • Many find themselves in this desperate situation after a breakdown in their family life, but increasingly, soaring rents and a lack of housing are robbing many young people of a stable environment and a safe place to sleep each night.
  • Some young people stay in unsafe situations — couch surfing, sleeping rough, or remaining with abusive partners — rather than leaving their local area where they feel connected.
  • If they do find a place to stay, it’s usually arranged like a family home, with shared living areas and bathroom facilities. Not suitable for young people who are vulnerable or have experienced trauma, and not appropriate for couples or young families.

A new way of supportingyoung people

Beyond the bricks-and-mortar will be a new way of supporting young people. A way that celebrates their strengths, their resilience and their ability to reach their potential.

The service will be trauma-informed and will use the Advantage Thinking framework to support young people’s strengths and potential.

Designed to provide stability, safety, and belonging, this project will offer young people the foundation they need to shape their own futures through independence and opportunity.

More than just a roof

While most crisis services push young people back into the housing market, our approach provides stability.

Young people can stay for more than a year if needed, allowing them time to recover, develop life skills, and prepare for independence.

Our focus is on long-term impact and change, providing young people with the time, support, and skills to genuinely break the cycle of homelessness.

With stable housing and a strong support network, young people can:

  • Secure employment
  • Access education
  • Build a foundation for long-term independence and success
  • Have a place to call home.
