The Amend Program can offer parents and their children support by providing:

  • Counselling and support to children affected by parental substance use
  • information about the impacts of substance use during pregnancy, breastfeeding and parenting
  • information and education on building a positive relationships between parent and child.

What is the Amend Program?

An evidence-based relapse prevention and parenting enhancement program.

The program is voluntary and is offered to:

  • pregnant women and mothers of any age
  • 18 one-hour counselling sessions in a child-friendly setting in the home
  • can be delivered as a group setting
  • entirely free of charge
  • we offer specialised, confidential counselling from qualified professionals.

We also offer individual and group-based harm minimisation information and education sessions to women who:

  • are pregnant or considering pregnancy
  • are receiving services at other agencies
  • are returning to the community following incarceration, or
  • just need some information to help them make decisions about substance use.

What other support can you provide?

We also support pregnant and parenting women who:

  • are attempting to reduce or stop their use of substances
  • are concerned about relapse or needing support following a recent relapse
  • have children in care or at-risk of being placed in care, due to substance use
  • are dealing with family and relationship problems relating to substance use, including parenting issues and relationships with children
  • are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress or other symptoms and are using substances to cope.
Where is the program located in Queensland?

Currently, the program is offered within the greater Brisbane region (from Burpengary to Waterford and from Wynnum West to Ferny Grove) and on the Gold Coast (from Coolangatta to Coomera).
