The project will explore the opportunities and challenges of co-housing in southeast Qld, and develop a model that we hope to pilot.

The project has three phases:
Phase 1 gathered the views of people interested in the idea of co-housing to identify barriers, challenges and opportunities.
This phase involved University of the Sunshine Coast researchers and The University of Queensland BSocSc students, focusing on different groups of potential co-housing participants.

A phase 2 survey, with the University of the Sunshine Coast, aims to address important questions raised by focus group participants about issues such as privacy, safety, finances and how to negotiate potential conflict.
Understanding these concerns is critical to ensuring a home sharing pilot is successful.
Phase 3, also with University of the Sunshine Coast researchers, will draw on our learnings from the earlier phases to develop a proposed operational model for an Anglicare co-housing pilot.
Among other factors, we’ll investigate implementation, risk and sustainability issues; financial and legal considerations; possible locations; communication strategies; and an evaluation framework.
