Insight Series

The Anglicare Southern Queensland Insight Series is a new publication series written by Anglicare staff. Research-based essays in the series share ideas, encourage dialogue, and generate feedback on issues related to Anglicare’s key areas of service delivery and organisational operations.

The Insight Series aims to expand our thinking on issues relevant to Anglicare’s everyday practice, applied research, and new innovations in the sector.

The series particularly focuses on groups and issues highlighted in Anglicare’s Research, Evaluation & Advocacy Roadmap 2026-27, including (but not limited to) children, young people, and families; Australia’s First Peoples; older people; and the human services workforce; as well as the need for homes, social connection and reducing violence.

Insight Series essays

In our inaugural essay in the Insight Series, Emily McIlmurray (Manager, Practice Development, Children Youth & Families) examines the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and its bearing upon youth justice in Queensland, including the Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld) and the Youth Justice Act 1992 (Qld).

In Beyond Shelter: Integrating Mental Health Support in Temporary Supported Accommodation, Mitchell Parlett (Sustainable Tenancies program – Queensland Drug and Alcohol Court, Anglicare Southern Queensland), asks how temporary supported accommodation can be improved to better support individuals experiencing homelessness and mental health concerns.
