Anglicare Southern Queensland staff and clients got into the spirit of NAIDOC Week 2019 with a range of celebrations taking place across our services in Southern Queensland.
The 2019 NAIDOC Week theme was ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth.’ This theme represented the three key elements set out in the Uluru Statement of the Heart.
This is how some of our teams celebrated NAIDOC in 2019:
InSync Redlands
Staff from our InSync Youth Services celebrated NAIDOC Week at Capalaba State College with our young people and family members. At the event, our team provided a free nail painting and temporary tattoo stall which attracted a long line of eager customers.
Our staff were thrilled that several of the young people engaged in our service attended the festivities.
At the event, there was also an Elders tent that was catered by all stall holders, who brought plates of food for everyone to share.
The event was organised by Kenneth Munro from Yulu Burri Ba and drew a crowd of several hundred people from across the Redlands region.
Corporate Office
Anglicare’s Corporate Office also celebrated NAIDOC Week festivities. Staff immersed themselves in traditional art workshops with Aboriginal artist, Arthur Conlon.
Arthur was born in Cherbough, and is a proud descendant of the Wakka Wakka people. As staff created turtle pictures, Arthur shared stories of his life and his experiences as an artist.
Pictured are some of the incredible art pieces that our staff created with Arthur.
