Caboolture Foster and Kinship Care Apology Day

Earlier this year, to commemorate the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen generations, team members from our Caboolture office came together for a morning of reflection through art and conversation.

Foster and Kinship Care Coordinator at our Caboolture service, Maureen, who organised the event explained, “as allies, we understand the journey is not over, and we still support the drive to ensure that our First Nations community are held front and centre in our day-to-day roles as FIS and FKC Practitioners”.

The morning provided a safe space for staff to yarn and reflect while also listening to the 17th Anniversary of the National Apology from Link-Up in the background while staff got creative with their canvases.

Maureen notes, “the initiatives that were designed to provide equity, healing and connection for First Nations people, are still lacking; survivors of the Stolen Generation are still being asked to tell their story, and Aboriginal people are still being denied Native Title, the opportunity to bring their kids up, and access to healthcare”.

Coming together for anniversaries such as the National Apology to the Stolen Generation provides an opportunity for staff to learn from one another while also acknowledging the systemic inequities that still exist.

Staff created individual artworks which are now hung as a collective in the hallway of the Caboolture office.
