Ever wondered what it’s like being a Facility Manager at Anglicare Southern Queensland? Meet Adele Wilkinson, the Facility Manager at the Meilene Residential Aged Care home in Bundaberg.
“At the risk of sounding clichéd, what I enjoy most about working at Meilene is the people. I had such a wonderful welcome here, the team, residents, families and volunteers are engaged, appreciative, and very energetic,” she said.

Adele said her role is about creating and maintaining strong trusting relationships with her staff, residents and families and the Bundaberg community in general.
“Day to day it is quite variable, but it usually involves listening carefully and exchanging clear information and ideas so that we can all achieve our best and hopefully exceed each other’s expectations,” she said.
“My best days are those I can spend listening to people’s stories – it’s both grounding and uplifting, and it gives me understanding into what is important for this person, and how we might serve this person better.
“It is a pure delight to work for an organisation such as Anglicare, as it provides such wide-ranging support for Queensland communities and individuals.
“The experience and interest of the people in each division, being underpinned by lived values, can only strengthen our mission and hopefully forge such a sense of social responsibility in others.”
Outside of work, Adele love venturing the great outdoors, camping, kayaking, fishing and hiking. A couple of years ago she rode a camel into the Sahara desert and slept under the stars.
“It was a truly awesome and very humbling experience. I’m very lucky enough to live by the ocean, so a simple afternoon walk can also be ‘awesome’ for me – particularly when you can’t find a camel handy,” she said.
Adele loves the saying ‘to seize the day as you never know what’s heading your way, so you must try your best each and everyday – don’t wait until tomorrow’.
