Support and understanding for change

Whether you have been referred to us by the courts, or wish to develop healthy, sustainable relationships, we’re here to support you and each other.

Program details

Living Without Violence is an 18-week family violence prevention program for men who have used violence and abuse against their partner, children or other family members.

This program is designed to give you the insight and tools to provide safety, respect and partnership in your relationships. Each group counselling session runs weekly for two and a half hours, and additional sessions can be arranged if you need additional support.

We will focus on:

  • Building skills for dealing with emotions and anger
  • Understanding how you use power
  • Identifying and changing unhelpful beliefs
  • Breaking the cycle of violence and understanding the impact of abuse on children
  • Responding to the behaviours of others in a responsible way
  • Building respect and equality in a relationship.

Legal support

As part of this program, we have a dedicated court support practitioner to provide information, support guidance and referral to male respondents on domestic violence orders.

Free and confidential support is also available for people attending Brisbane Magistrates Court who have been impacted by domestic and family violence, including:

  • Accessing the court’s safety facilities
  • Understanding Domestic Violence Protection Orders (DVPO) and knowing what to do if one has been breached
  • Completing a DVPO or amending an existing one
