Common questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive about InSync.

What charities help homeless people in Australia?

Many charities across Australia support homelessness, such as Anglicare Southern Queensland. These charities support individuals with crisis and transitional accommodation support, early intervention, wrap around support, advocacy, counselling and more.

Who funds homelessness in Australia?

The Australian Government, as well as State and Territory governments fund homeless programs in Australia. This is typically provided through the National Housing and Homelessness Agreement (NHHA).

What is the best solution for homelessness?

The best solution to reduce and eliminate homelessness is to provide better early intervention and prevention strategies. However, combatting homelessness takes a holistic approach. It can include providing more safe and affordable housing and providing ongoing support services to achieve sustainable results for those experiencing homelessness. These support services include mental health assistance, job assistance, community connection, education and more.

How can we help youth with homelessness?

We can help by supporting programs like Anglicare’s Youth Homelessness Services, which provide young people with crisis and transitional housing, counselling, and life skills training. Donating, volunteering, or raising awareness also helps create safer pathways for youth in need.

What do homeless youth need the most?

Homeless youth urgently need stable housing, physical safety, emotional support, and resources for education and employment. Programs like ours focus on giving young people these essentials while helping them develop the skills and confidence to live independently.

Are there any costs or out of pocket fees?

No, there are no costs or fees to take part in the InSync program.

What is the difference between Temporary and Transitional Accommodation?

Temporary accommodation is for young people between the ages of 16-18 and provides them with 24-hour rostered staff. Transitional accommodation is for young people between the ages of 16-25 years. However, these homes are independent units or share houses that don’t have rostered staff but our team will meet with young people regularly.

Are young people expected to pay rent?

Young people in our temporary accommodation are expected to respectfully contribute to their living environment. Our transitional homes generally require a lease agreement and are suitable for independent young people who can pay rent.
