The power of clothes
Clothing is more than just fabric; it’s an expression of identity and self-worth. Wearing clothes that reflect one’s personal style can boost self-esteem and help individuals to face life’s challenges.
Our Thread Together services are designed to not just provide clothing, but to meet a basic human need in a dignified and respectful way, and enable people to make personal choices, without judgement, that reflect their unique needs and personality.
Who can benefit
The Thread Together mobile wardrobe and clothing hub supports a diverse range of individuals and families, including:
- People experiencing homelessness
- Refugees and new arrivals
- Individuals recovering from natural disasters
- Those facing financial hardship.
How the program works
Our ‘mobile wardrobe’ (van) visits a wide range of community organisations and churches across Greater Brisbane by prior arrangement. If your service supports individuals and families who are doing it tough, please contact us to arrange a visit.
Our referral-based clothing hub, located at St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Indooroopilly, operates on Monday mornings by appointment only. Case workers and coordinators can use our booking form to make an appointment for individuals and families to select from a range of new clothes in a supportive environment.
Get involved
The success of Thread Together relies on the generosity and support of the community. There are several ways you can get involved:
- Volunteer: Join our community of volunteers – there’s a role for everyone!
- Donate: Financial contributions to Thread Together help us maintain and expand our services.
- Partner: We welcome conversations with community organisations and others who support people who are currently doing it tough.
By getting involved, you’re helping to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families in our community, providing a hand up at a time when it’s needed.
Through our Thread Together partnership, we’re weaving threads of hope, dignity, and new beginnings.
Conversing with the Community
Being able to choose what you wear gives you that feeling of being yourself and being in control and being human.

Just having a change of clothes can change the way someone sees the world.

Sustainability
While fashion undoubtedly can have a positive effect on the individual, the industry is harmful to our planet. With consumption of clothing growing rapidly, we all have a role to play in ensuring that the fashion industry is sustainable. By partnering with Thread Together, Anglicare and St Andrew’s are ensuring a positive environmental and social impact.

Wellbeing
Often described as a second skin, clothing is an external expression and representation of an individual’s personality. Our sense of self and identity is often influenced by the types of clothing that we can access. Clothing affects and reflects our sense of self and our self-esteem.
The Thread Together Queensland partners are keenly aware of this connection and have long recognised that clothing is not only a covering, but also core to the way people communicate about themselves to the world.
“Anglicare’s goal is to build people up, and the Thread Together program will support us to do that.”
