Program details

Safe and Well is a course-based program designed for children aged 5 to 7 years old, however the resources and content can be adapted for older children. The program is based on a 5 – 8 week model, where children work through a resource pack and workbook with activities tailored to their needs.

Parents are invited to attend the first session to assess the child’s requirements, potential risks, and to discuss counselling expectations. Subsequent sessions are conducted one-on-one with a counsellor with the counsellor providing parents with updates and progress as needed.

The program aims to help children:

  • Understand and promote their right to safety
  • Provide knowledge and skills to respond to situations and people that make them feel unsafe.

Common questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive about our program.

There are no costs. This counselling service is delivered under our Family and Relationship Counselling Service (FaRS) which is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.

Yes, a parent or guardian must provide consent at the time of registering their child or young person into the counselling program.

Your counselling sessions are private, and counsellors won’t share what you say with parents or teachers unless you want them involved or there is a serious safety concern. Anglicare follows strict confidentiality rules so young people can talk openly. If a risk to your safety arises, your counsellor will explain what must be shared and support you through the process.
