Anglicare Southern Queensland cares about the cultural identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, and equips non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers with the resources and information to meet their needs. We’re by your side every step of the way

Fostering a child or young person is a long-term decision that will not only transform a young person’s life, but your life as well. If you’re prepared to start the foster care journey, you’ll have the help and advice of a Foster Care Case Practitioner during the whole process – from applying, training, assessing, matching the right child with your family and more. Whatever difficulties or happiness you encounter, our Sunshine Coast team will support you and the child in your care with compassion, creativity, commitment and bravery.

Fostering Sunshine Coast: attend one of our information sessions

If you’re interested in becoming a foster or kinship carer, you can attend our regular information sessions on the Sunshine Coast. These sessions will help you learn from our experienced intake team about the process and benefits of being a foster parent and address any questions you may have.

We understand the importance of cultural identity

We respect the cultural identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their right to stay connected to their community.

When it isn’t possible to maintain a connection with the child’s family and community, our Brisbane-based cultural support workers help non-indigenous foster carers and staff to learn about the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander foster children in care, supporting them in a holistic way that values their family, spiritual, community and personal needs. The team also empowers young people to develop a strong sense of identity through activities that celebrate their culture.

We’ve answered the most common foster and kinship care questions
