Raising Funds to Play and Grow

Anglicare Southern Queensland and Property Industry Foundation are partnering to provide a state-of-the-art extension to Anglicare’s Homelessness Supportive Accommodation in Toowong. Our Supportive Accommodation has been instrumental in supporting single women between 16 and 25 years who are either parenting or expecting, and are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. Following the demolition of the current children’s playground and adjoining shed to make way for a new build on the Toowong site, we have seized the opportunity to create a brand-new Play and Grow space – an endeavour that our partners at Property Industry Foundation are glad to help us turn into a reality.

The early years of a child’s life are the most significant for development. The experiences children have in these years help shape the adults they will become. Healthy development ensures that children of all abilities are able to mature where their social, emotional, and educational needs are met. Having a safe and child friendly space to spend time with their mothers and other children – playing, singing, reading, and talking – all contribute to helping children grow into healthy adults.

The new play area will be attached to a workshop and learning space for the young women. Mothers will be able to supervise their children while attending education programs that help them build skills, resilience, and friendship, whilst also providing a space for outside play and interaction between mothers and children. This development will be an all-encompassing family environment for all clients and staff of our Women and Families Homelessness Services. The facility will provide both formal and informal activities where learning is fun and engaging for both the children and mothers.

To help support the creation of this project and to see it through to fruition, we have, along with our partners Property Industry Foundation, created the inaugural Charity Football Luncheon. Held at the Sofitel Brisbane Central on Friday April 28, guest speakers Bob Sharpless, Chairman of the Brisbane Lions, and Richard Barker, CEO of the Queensland Reds will be joining us for a fundraising luncheon. We look forward to working with you to provide brighter futures for families in need.
