Compassionate and Professional Care at EM Tooth: Client Testimonial

Craig Hunter’s family faced the challenge of finding urgent respite care for his mother, Yvonne, after a fall. Living in Perth, they turned to EM Tooth Memorial Residential Aged Care Home in Brisbane, where they received compassionate and professional care from Anglicare Southern Queensland. Craig’s testimonial highlights the seamless service they experienced, giving the family confidence in their decision for Yvonne’s care.

“From the moment we entered EM Tooth Home in September, we have been treated by allAnglicare staff with courtesy, respect, compassion and professionalism.”

These were the words from Craig who could not speak more highly of the level of care and compassion provided to him and his family when his mum, Yvonne, needed respite care at short notice a couple of months ago.

Initial Research and Decision

“Given my mother’s medical history and the increased frequency of her falls, we commenced research on Residential Aged Care Homes in Brisbane in the event that in future we would need to transition my mother either to respite care and/or into a Care Home on a permanent basis,” he said.

“While in Brisbane (we live in Perth WA) we base ourselves in either Manly or Wynnum. Friends from that area strongly recommended that we include in our research EM Tooth in Manly, run by Anglicare.”

Positive First Impressions of EM Tooth Home

Craig said from the moment they entered the home in September, he and his family were treated with “courtesy, respect, compassion and professionalism.”

“We were encouraged by EM Tooth staff to tour the home, inspect the facilities and, if we were comfortable, to submit an application for a place at the home. This we did within days,” he explained.

Urgent Need for Respite Care

Around six weeks later after their return to Perth, Craig’s mum suffered another fall. Unfortunately this time she required surgery which demanded a period of hospitalisation in respite care.

“Before my mother’s discharge from hospital we contacted Shantelle at Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Client Service Centre to enquire about availability of rooms at EM Tooth,” he said.

Proactive Support from Anglicare Staff

“Shantelle was extremely helpful in liaising between ourselves, the Wesley Hospital discharge staff, and the Facility Manager at EM Tooth to secure a respite room at very short notice for my mother.

“This level of service, speed of response and promise of a room, alleviated the stress caused by us trying to navigate a complex process, with limited knowledge of the available options or protocols, exacerbated by the tyranny of distance and time between Perth and Brisbane.”

Seamless Transition to Respite Care

Craig commended the staff at Anglicare for ensuring a smooth transition for his mum while she was in respite care at EM Tooth.

“During subsequent communications with the EM Tooth registered nurse (Christina) to arrange for the appropriate pharmaceutical, dental, medical, optical and leisure services for my mother while she is in respite, we experienced again the same level of wonderful service, patience, and professionalism,” he said.

“We cannot speak highly enough of the superb level of support that Anglicare, Shantelle, Christina, the EM Tooth Facility Manager, and the staff we met at the home during our visit in September.

“It has given our family confidence and comfort that the decision made to place my mother in care following her surgery has been absolutely the correct one. Thank you sincerely to the Anglicare organisation and wonderful staff.”

Thank you so much to Craig and his family for sharing this beautiful testimonial.
