Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC)

Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) is a government-funded program designed to help older Australians regain independence and delay the need for long-term care. The program provides up to eight weeks of intensive support, focusing on improving mobility, strength, and overall wellbeing.

About STRC funding

STRC is a time-limited, goal-oriented program that provides tailored rehabilitation services through a multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nurses. It aims to help you recover from illness, surgery, or a decline in function, allowing you to stay independent at home. The program can be accessed twice in a 12-month period.

Additional services can be added to the program for a fee.

Eligibility and application process

To qualify for STRC, you must be:

  • Aged 65 years or older (50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)
  • Experiencing a decline in function and are at risk of needing long-term care
  • Assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).
