In Home respite care

In-home respite care offers a flexible solution, allowing a professional caregiver to step in and support you or your loved one in the comfort of your home.

How we can help

Caring for a loved one is a fulfilling but demanding role, and it’s important that carers have the opportunity to rest and recharge. In-home respite care provides temporary support in the comfort of your own home, ensuring that you receive the care you need while your carer takes a well-deserved break.

Whether it’s for a few hours, overnight, or a longer period, this service allows carers to step away with peace of mind, knowing their loved one is being well looked after.

A break that benefits you both.

Being a carer is a rewarding journey, but everyone needs time to rest and recharge. Residential respite care gives your carer the chance to take a break from time to time while ensuring you receive the best care, companionship, and support at home.

Our stories

Funding options

There are various funding options to help you access care and support at home and beyond. We’ll help you find the best fit for your needs today while also exploring options for the future, so you always have the right support at the right time.

Common questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive about our respite care services.

Yes. Under Australia’s Support at Home system (previously Home Care Packages), in-home respite is an approved service when it’s included in your care plan. Funding can cover a support worker visiting your home while your carer rests, works or attends appointments. Residential respite is funded separately, but Anglicare can help you structure your plan so your budget supports both everyday care and regular breaks effectively.

Start by registering with My Aged Care for an assessment. If respite is approved, you can choose Anglicare as your provider and we’ll help organise a respite schedule that fits you and your carer’s needs. For sudden situations, Carer Gateway can arrange emergency respite and Anglicare can help coordinate follow-up support to keep care consistent.

Government-subsidised residential respite allows up to 63 days per financial year, with possible extensions of 21 days for carer illness or exceptional needs. Families commonly book stays of one to three weeks at a time. If you already receive Anglicare’s in-home respite, we can help combine both options so you receive continuous, familiar care while your carer takes a longer break.
