Our stories

Common questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive about our health and wellbeing programs.

What is the role of health and wellbeing in Queensland?

For older Queenslanders, health and wellbeing are central to staying independent, safe and connected. State and national strategies emphasise preventing decline through movement, social participation and mental wellbeing, not just treating illness. Anglicare’s health and wellbeing programs turn these goals into practical classes and groups that help you maintain strength, balance, mood and confidence while continuing to live at home.

What is a health and well-being assessment?

A health and wellbeing assessment is a structured check-in on how you’re going physically, emotionally and socially. It may look at mobility, balance, falls risk, strength, chronic conditions, nutrition and mood, using tools like falls-risk screens alongside conversation. Anglicare clinicians use these assessments to tailor suitable exercise groups, education and supports, so activities are safe, effective and aligned with your goals.

What are the health and wellbeing choices?

Your choices can include group exercise classes, balance and falls-prevention programs, walking groups, strength training, hydrotherapy, allied health sessions, health education and social groups. Anglicare designs programs specifically for older people, often funded through CHSP or Support at Home, so you can choose activities that match your interests and abilities while still working toward better mobility, confidence and social connection.

What is mental health and wellbeing about?

Mental health and wellbeing programs focuses on how you feel, think and connect with others, not just whether you have a diagnosed condition. For older people, grief, pain, isolation or health changes can affect mood and resilience. Anglicare’s counselling and wellbeing programs focus on emotional support, coping skills, social connection and purpose, helping you maintain a sense of meaning and quality of life as you age.
