Homestay

If you are at risk of homelessness, our Homestay program helps you maintain your current tenancy and find suitable long-term options.

Make a plan for long term housing security.

Having a secure home is vital to achieving stability in all other areas of your life. We can support you to achieve this goal.

Program details

The free Homestay program is for people at risk of homelessness in the Toowoomba and Southern Downs regions. If you’re experiencing financial hardship or struggling to maintain long-term housing, we may be able to help.

As part of the program, a Homestay practitioner will regularly visit you at home or another convenient location. Together, we’ll develop a tailored support plan based on your strengths, goals and needs to support tenancy sustainment. This includes help with planning, budgeting and goal-setting. If required, we can also provide financial assistance or referral to other sources of support.

Your Homestay practitioner will:

  • Work with you on budgeting and household management
  • Help you make sense of housing and tenancies
  • Connect you with local community support networks
  • Advocate for what you need
  • Identify your strengths and help you develop skills to improve your independence
  • Support you to develop positive communication and negotiation skills
  • Refer you to services that can provide support in other areas.
