Projects

At Anglicare Southern Queensland, our commitment to research is central to our mission of strengthening communities and driving meaningful change. Our research efforts are designed to provide evidence-based insights, influence policy, and support our advocacy work. Explore our comprehensive research, advocacy campaigns, and resources below.

Key areas of focus

Our projects aim to support and guide the work of our service delivery programs, ensuring that the voices of those we serve are reflected in our practices. As such, the research and advocacy projects we undertake focus on the following groups and issues:

Children, young people & families

The way we support our children and young people now shapes the kind of society we can expect in the future. It takes healthy families and communities to nurture the next generation. This involves creating a safe and inclusive environment, where children and young people can have a voice and reach their full potential.

Older people

The aged care sector is at a crossroads, facing significant challenges that will impact both the way we support older Australians now, and in the future.

Crossroads also offer opportunities. Our research focuses on how we support continuous improvement in the quality of care we offer our residents, the wellbeing of older people still living at home, and the knowledge we can share more widely to benefit older Australians wherever they live.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Anglicare Southern Queensland recognises the rights, culture, diversity and strengths of Australia’s First Peoples. We’re committed to strengths-based approaches to research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that can contribute meaningfully to the development of opportunities that support growth and thriving.

Our workforce

Workforce development is taking place in an increasingly complex environment, as both workers and employers grapple with the implications of social, cultural, technological and environmental change as well as legislative and funding requirements. Our research plays a crucial role in understanding this environment, providing evidence-based solutions to emerging issues, and helping us to think outside the box to identify creative, empowering ways to support our workforce as they strive to better meet client needs.

The need for homes

Housing is never just a roof over our heads. The lack of safe, appropriate housing influences every element of people’s lives — their access to services, their health, safety, employment, even the nature of their relationships. It creates an intergenerational disadvantage that weakens the social and economic fabric of our community.

Social connection

Social connection is the experience of feeling close and connected to others. It forms the basis for healthy relationships, providing people with the feeling of being loved, cared for, and valued. Studies show that isolation and loneliness are associated with higher risks for health problems such as heart disease, depression, and cognitive decline.

Reducing violence

Violence creates harm at multiple, interconnected levels, each influencing the other and underpinned by power dynamics, discrimination, and inequalities. This interplay between social, structural, systemic, and individual violence creates a need for holistic and multifaceted approaches to addressing violence, targeting cultural norms and institutional practices, as well as individual behaviours.
