About CHSP funding
CHSP is designed for seniors who need a little extra help to maintain their independence. Rather than providing a budgeted package of funds, CHSP offers direct access to specific services at a subsidised rate. Clients pay a small co-contribution, making it an affordable option if you require occasional or low-level support. Services are flexible and can be adjusted based on changing needs.
Both long-term support and short-term episodic support is available through CHSP.

To qualify for an CHSP, you must:

Common questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive about the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).
What does the Commonwealth Home Support Program do?
The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) provides “entry-level” help for older Australians who need a little extra support to stay independent at home. It subsidises services like domestic assistance, meals, transport, personal care, social support and respite. Anglicare is an approved CHSP provider in Queensland, so we deliver these services locally while the Australian Government funds most of the cost.
Who is eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program?
For CHSP, you usually need to be 65 or over (50 or over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), or 50+ and at risk of homelessness, and finding everyday tasks more difficult. An assessment organised through My Aged Care checks your needs and eligibility. If CHSP is right for you, you can then choose Anglicare as your provider.
What is the Commonwealth support payment?
There isn’t a single “Commonwealth support payment” under CHSP. Instead, the Australian Government subsidises your services directly to providers like Anglicare, and you pay a modest co-contribution. You might separately receive income support such as the Age Pension, but that is managed by Services Australia. Together, these supports help you afford practical help at home without losing your independence.
