Common questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive about our residential respite services.
How do I get respite care in Queensland?
Start by contacting My Aged Care for an assessment. If residential respite is approved, you can then choose Anglicare as your provider and book short stays at one of our residential aged care homes, subject to availability. Our team helps coordinate dates, transport and any personal or clinical care you need, so your carer can take a planned break with confidence.
What is the difference between residential care and respite care?
Residential care is a long-term move into an aged care home where staff support you around the clock. Respite care is a short-term stay—often days or weeks—used to give carers a break or help you recover after illness or hospital. At Anglicare, respite guests receive similar daily care and activities to permanent residents, but return home once their stay ends.
How long is respite in a care home?
Most people can access up to 63 government-subsidised respite days per financial year, with potential extensions for special circumstances. Families often use this in blocks of one to three weeks, or several shorter stays spread across the year. Anglicare can help you plan respite around work, holidays or carer health needs so the time away feels manageable for everyone.
