Celebrating our volunteers

Anglicare Southern Queensland volunteers from across South East Queensland were guests of honour at a special National Volunteer Week Service at St John’s Cathedral in Brisbane today.

Anglicare is supported by more than 700 community volunteers who play an important part in contributing to the wellbeing and happiness of people in their local communities.

Liana Roccon, Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Volunteer Program Manager, said volunteers gave more than 43,000 hours of their time every year to support a range of services, including aged care, people living with disabilities and families under stress.

“Anglicare volunteers come from all walks of life and volunteer for many different reasons, but the common theme is their need and want to give back to their local community,” she said.

“In a world that is sometimes full of heartache, the human connection that we make every day through our work, whether that be paid work or volunteering, is what keeps us believing in humanity and continuing to make a real difference.

“Thank you to all of our magnificent volunteers for the value you add to our clients’ lives each and every day.”

The service was led by Anglicare’s Director of Mission, The Reverend Canon Linda McWilliam and featured an address by the Archbishop of Brisbane, The Most Reverend Dr Phillip Aspinall.
