Celebrating Peoples of All Ages Day

Grease was the word at our E.M. Tooth residential home at Manly in Brisbane recently, with students from Springfield Anglican College performing a medley of numbers from the hit 70s musical for residents as part of Celebrating Peoples of All Ages Day.

The performances were a big hit, and the students also had a chance to get to know the residents, who really got into the swing of things.

Year 8 student John Watts said: “I believe it is a nice experience coming to this pleasant village and making the elderly people’s day by having a nice conversation. It makes them feel less isolated and feel better. What I get out of this is a sense of helping and a feeling of service.”

Year 8 student Madison Hampson said: “I love coming here. It is a privilege to know everyone. It makes my day a lot better because I am learning so much. I have learnt to be grateful for what I have and not to take things for granted and to appreciate everything around me because I am very privileged compared to the childhood of some of the residents that has been very different to mine. It has taught me to be grateful, gracious and humble.”

EM Tooth resident, Mutzi Pez, said it was wonderful to interact with the kids.

“The kids are really nice and I love this, I really do,” Mutzi said. “I think this should be encouraged and more and more schools should do this.”
