The Supporting Successful Tenancies project aims to increase the availability and sustainability of private sector rental accommodation for people with complex needs.

The project is a collaboration with QShelter, the Tenancy Skills Institute, Tenants Queensland, Compass Housing and the National Affordable Housing Consortium (NAHC), and has the support of the Redland City Council.

The project kicked off with an interactive workshop held in Cleveland late in 2019 to provide targeted, practical training, resources and a networking opportunity to support real estate professionals in the Redland coast area to deal more effectively with tenants experiencing difficult personal circumstances.

The workshop included a ‘You Can’t Ask That!’ panel addressing some of the questions property managers might normally feel uncomfortable asking, as well as a ‘spotlight on resources’ session.

A compilation of resources from the workshop can be found here.  More workshops are planned for the future, in a range of locations.  For more information, please contact us.

Supporting Successful Tenancies University of Qld student research project 2019

The Supporting Successful Tenancies workshop program has been complemented by a prize-winning research project carried out by a team of exceptional University of Queensland School of Social Science students: Andrea Shabrokh, Daniel Hullick, Danielle Hugman and Mikaela Kerwin.

The final report, Exploring The Interplay Between The Private Rental Sector And Complex Tenancies, provides a comprehensive literature review, and discusses the findings and conclusions from in-depth interviews with 12 Brisbane property managers regarding the challenges and barriers they face in sustaining complex tenancies.
