Anglicare’s Arts&Minds Initiative

Over the past six weeks, Anglicare Southern Queensland have, in tandem with our partners at goa and Khemistry, created and launched Arts&Minds, a first-of-its-kind live art and fundraising event. The event ran over six weeks and featured local artists Kyan De Vere, Rochelle Alahendra, Cielle Van Vuuren, Lorelle Murray, Ash Peel, and Jayne Curle. Each Tuesday saw the artists undertake the gargantuan challenge of creating a piece of artwork whilst the process was live-streamed throughout Brisbane via THE goa GRID, followed by a week-long live digital art auction – the first of its kind to take place in Australia.

The main focus of the Arts&Minds initiative was to remove the stigma and open up conversation around mental health and wellbeing issues, with each of the six artists talking candidly about the effect mental health has had on not only their loved ones, but quite often themselves. The artists, along with a wide range of sponsors, generously donated their time and work to the project, with the goal of raising funds to help deliver Anglicare’s sorely needed mental health and wellbeing programs to those that need it most.

Following the intense six-week art creation process, the artworks, along with others donated by the six Arts&Minds artists and other finalists in the selection process were showcased at The Bromley Room, West Village, alongside a vast exhibition of works by Brisbane artists, and the iconic award-winning works of David Bromley. The exhibition culminated in the inaugural Arts&Minds gala event, hosted by MC Robin Bailey, and featuring guest speakers Philip Bacon and Yuge Bromley. The remaining artworks were auctioned on the night, with all further raised funds going to Anglicare’s mental health & wellbeing programs.

Photos from the gala event, and of the artworks created throughout the unique process are available on the Arts&Minds website
